A Pictoral History

A little history now, but not the classroom type - this is a pictorial history of working life in Britain.

Workinglife.org.uk is a charming site - and although not very sophisticated, it does seem to capture what life was like in 20th Century Britain. The pictures date back to the early 1900s, but many of them are from the 60s and 70s when industrial businesses were booming.

Browsing these pages is a fascinating walk back through time into the lives of the people who built the British economy - rail workers, miners, fishermen and factory girls.

Click a link on the left and then open the thumbnails to full size by clicking them. Each section has a little blurb beside it to add to the atmosphere.
